Notice: Predictions are entered during the week and gathered the day prior to the event. Explanations behind every pick are not required and a few writers elect to not do this for their own motives. For example, if Phil Mackenzie entered all of his predictions on Wednesday without adding in any explanationshe has no idea if he’s going to be the only one siding with a single fighter for any given fight.
Robert Whittaker vs. Kelvin Gastelum
Anton Tabuena: Two former welterweights fighting for the middleweight belt. Will this convince people that intense weight reduction really isn’t worth the trade off in performance? Likely not, but this ought to be a fun bout either way at the least. I believe this will be closer than that which the chances state, but I think Whittaker is just marginally better just about everywhere, so he should take this. Robert Whittaker by decision.
Mookie Alexander: Gastelum absolutely has a chance here. He has powerful hands, insane durability — maybe not that Whittaker’s durability is to be scoffed at by any means — and excellent cardio. However, he is not likely to be able to shoot Whittaker down (or at least hold him ), and Whittaker has way more depth to his offensive striking. His leg kicks specifically can slow Gastelum down, and I think he cuts angles and combines his attack choice and targets more effectively than Kelvin. It is going to be a close battle through the opening few rounds however Whittaker will come on strong at the later rounds and get the win. Robert Whittaker by conclusion.
